Hello and welcome to another episode of the 120 Second Recruitment Podcast. I am joined today by Simon Bruce and Simon your first question is, what is the best advice or sales tip you’ve been given to be more successful in recruitment?

Good to be here thanks Callum for organizing this. The best advice or sales tip that I’ve been given, to be honest, when I first started recruitment I was nearly fired within the first three months. I was failing dismally.
I reached out to the then top-performing recruiter in the company I was working for I said help pretty much help me. He said look come with me and I’m going to teach you the key tips of the trade.
The thing that he gave me that is absolutely golden is the 100% rule and 100% rule essentially means don’t leave anything till later. You understand what you’ve got to do each step of the way in recruitment. Do every single thing then and there as quickly as possible. Don’t think and don’t do things half-assed.

I think that’s a great rule. Your second question Simon is, what advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue a similar career to yours?
Simon Bruce
My career has been a little bit interesting because I’ve started a number of different teams and then a recruitment organization. A lot of it was having a lot of faith in your own ability. When you’ve got faith in your own ability take risks.
I jumped from being one of the top performers in recruitment for accounting and finance recruitment there was an opportunity to say “hey who wants to start a supply chain team” I just put my hand out jump on it and it ended up being the number one team in the company.
The opportunity now “hey I’m in Sydney Australia boring, who wants to go to Myanmar to start a recruitment company”. Set it up. We’re now the number one in the market. Take risks.
